3G Technology in Education
Qualcomm, a leading international developer of 3G technology, has launched a new project in India that partners with Sesame Workshop India to provide a quality early education experience to migrant children. The joint venture called "Galli Galli Sim Sim" has been expanded to community radio broadcasts mobile phone broadcasts.
The goal of the Radiophone project is to combine the reach of community radio and cell phones to provide expanded access to quality educational programming for underserved migrant children in the New Delhi suburb of Gurgaon. Children of migrant workers in India are forced to uproot from their homes and schools frequently, as they move to different states with their families and often have difficulty accessing education at their new locations. They often do not benefit from public or NGO schools, with the access problem worsened by economic and language barriers.
